Diabetes

Diabetes

So I’m a type 1 insulin dependent diabetic. I was diagnosed the year after I left University. A “lucky” event in making it through childhood, teenage and student mishaps without the added factor of administering drugs, well, legal ones anyway. Its a double edged sword, it could undoubtedly have already saved my life as it stopped me from joining the Royal Marines after University with the Gulf Wars looming.  I always thought the Marines were my fail safe option for work so I dithered around trying to think what I really wanted to do and when I had finally decided yep, the Navy’s for me! Bang, option withdrawn.

I always try to play the positive diabetic and show it hasn’t stopped me, but it has on a few things, not always bad but also not always good.

If anyone ever reads this blog who is diabetic, I would heartily recommend looking into a dose adjustment for normal eating course if they haven’t already done one. It has been a massively helpful improvement to my life and taken me some way to being able to really understand and get a grip on my blood sugar control – www.dafneonline.co.uk
